THE OLD WAY WILL BE THE NEW WAY ... SOMEDAY
History of GromoOrganic
Uncle Marv’s Gromo Organic plant food was a formula handed
down through my family for the past 30 years. My wife Laura, and I had an
organic fruit and vegetable farm in Mendocino, California 25 years ago. We
had made a living taking our organically grown produce to the farmers markets
around the Northern Ca. area. Laura was in charge of making the fruit pies,
and jams. She also made an extraordinary marinara sauce from the volumes
of organic tomatoes we produced on the farm. One day, a restaurateur from
the Lake Tahoe area had tasted and fallen in love with her sauce. He had
to have it for his two pizza parlors around the lake. We grew blackberries
that were literally the size of a man’s thumb, and gladiolas in huge
bunches that we gave away to customers at the markets. We also featured two
varieties of grapes, and a field of roses nearby.
I was taught how to make the fertilizer from scratch. In those days organic fertilizer was nonexistent to buy, and even if we could, it would have been way too expensive at the volumes we required. Since moving to Colorado almost a decade ago, we have continued to use it for our home gardening and landscaping needs. We now enjoy a significantly shorter growing season here in colder Boulder Colorado. What we have discovered is that with regular applications of Uncle Marv’s from early propagation, outdoor plants are more resistant to the cold. As a result, most years I can even get my melons to maturity before the first frost!
For years I have given away water bottles filled with this plant food to my neighbors and friends here in town. Everyone has nice things to say about the results that they have enjoyed, and they return every year wanting more.
Testimonials
My neighbors Paul and Steph Keller told me that after two years of continued use, “we have the best house plants on the planet.” I have given it to Dr. Daniel Helburg of Boulder, and he says, “The Christmas cactuses in my office have not flowered in four years. And since using Uncle Marv’s on them they have flowered three times in a single season.”
Tim Johnson is a music producer formerly of Mendocino County. After moving to Las Vegas five years ago, he started to transplant some of the vegetation he had enjoyed from his Mendocino home to the harsh and alkaline growing conditions in Vegas. He called me for some fertilizer to aid in his efforts. He actually harvested about 40 lbs. of grapes when they started coming in. He also has asian pears and plum trees, with many ornamentals throughout. Tim even brought some baby redwood trees in. I had my doubts, but they too are thriving in his yard in Las Vegas, after 4 years!
These are just a few of the numerous testimonies that have come back to me. And these are some of the reasons why I was finally convinced to make this plant food available to the folks who share a love of gardening, and the success stories that so often accompany them.
